My love for Cary Elwes has been stated many times, and in abundance as of recently so I shall spare you all that. Though it is important to note a significant portion of that love comes from the epic fairy tale that is The Princess Bride. So, naturally when it was announce that Cary Elwes had penned a memoir about the making of The Princess Bride, I knew I had to own/read it.
To say the book is a love letter to the film would be putting it mildly. If you are looking for a hard hitting expose or a load of dirt on cast & crew, than this is not the book for you. No, this beautifully written remembrance is sure to give you all the warm & fuzzy feels you receive from actually watching the movie.
An easy read, Cary takes you from his audition, through completion of film & even backstage at the 25th anniversary screening. In addition to Cary’s charming anecdotes, through out the book are several vignettes with other cast and crew members sharing their memories. Everyone is perfect and wonderful and glorious. Ok, so the book is a bit of a gush fest, but sometimes that is exactly what you need. It truly is a must read for any Princess Bride fan.
