It’s The End of the [Marvel] World As We Know It…

It’s The End of the [Marvel] World As We Know It…

Today at a live Marvel event, taking place at Midtown Comics in NYC, Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso and Senior Vice President of Publishing and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort confirmed that the eight-issue series Secret Wars would put an end to The Marvel Universe, you know the one we’ve known and loved since 1961, and The Ultimate Universe, as we know them would be ending.

The pair foretold that by the time the gigantic crossover event,  Secret Wars #1 hits stands, every world in Marvel’s multiverse will be destroyed, some pieces of which will form together to create Battleworld, which will be where the Secret Wars storyline will take place.  So what does this mean? Well essentially, anything could happen. Old characters resurrected, new(ish) characters given the axe.

This is a BIG deal people. NOTHING IS SACRED!!! If Marvel has proved anything to us in the past year, it’s that they are not afraid of change. in the past few months alone we’ve gotten a female Thor, and African American Captain America. So, as you can see, change is not necessarily a bad thing…

What are my thoughts on all this? While I am sad to see the old Marvel Universe come to an end…I am cautiously optimistic over Battleworld. Marvel has always been great with their continuity, across many platforms, comics, tv and film, so streamlining the universes seems like the best way to go, right?

This will either be epically awesome or a disaster… either way folks, buckle up, we’re in for one hell of a ride.

HANNIBAL Season 3 Premiere Pushed

2015/01/img_3394-0.jpg

The gory and visually stunning crime drama, Hannibal, which has previously had a mid-season premiere, will not be joining our regularly scheduled programming until the summer. So sayith NBC network chairman Robert Greenblatt.

According to the numbers, Hannibal suffers pale ratings in the mid-season slot, hence the summer move.

What say you to the move, geeks? Me? I’ll take my Hannibal whenever I can get it.

Image Comics Kickin’ it Old School with Mail Order Subscriptions

Image Comics Kickin’ it Old School with Mail Order Subscriptions

I once had someone comment how it was “really cool” that I “support comic book stores” because I actually go out and purchases hard copies of comic books. In an age of tablets, smartphones and all things digital it would certainly be easier to simply buy my comics digitally, and create less clutter, but to me, there is just something magical about going into the shop every week, picking up the newest releases, being able to hold each issue in your hands, and lovingly flip through the pages, ads and all.

There are times however, that I can’t make it into the shop, and am usually forced to either order the issues offline, tfaw.com is a wonderful resource by the way, hunt then down at my comic book shop in the following weeks, or appeal to two of my favorite people to search their local shops for me.

Well now, Image has come up with an awesome way for you to receive your fave Image title right at your door! Click below for more info.
