NBC lands DC Comics Workplace Comedy ‘Powerless’ Pilot

You read correctly, geeks! NBC has committed to producing the pilot of a new comedy call Powerless. Wait, wait, wait. NBC? The network that drove Constantine into the ground? The network that canceled Hannibal? The network that can never seem to get this whole ‘TV’ thing right? Okay. Just so we’re on the same page. What does this have to do with DC Comics? I’m glad you asked.

The project evokes NBC’s signature comedy series The Office, but with superheroes. Based on characters from DC Comics, Powerless is a workplace comedy set at one of the worst insurance companies in America — with the twist being that it also takes place in the universe of DC Comics. The show is about the reality of working life for a normal, powerless person in a world of superheroes and villains.

Uh. Why? The list of characters that will be included in this show are not mainstream ones that we know (I.E. not Batman, Arrow, Flash, etc.) The focus of the series is supposedly on the “power-less” people working at the insurance agency and how they envy the superheroes who make the headlines. Again, why?

Considering this is just a commitment to make a pilot, I won’t be holding my breath that this becomes a full-blown series, but who am I? Just a female geek consumer who looks at this concept and thinks, ‘why?’.
