Whovians have know for a while that this was to be Peter Capaldi, the 12th Doctor’s last season. As always there was much speculation as to who the next Doctor would be, and as has been they case, in recent regenerations [some] fans were hoping to see a woman in the role. Well, yesterday afternoon the announcement was made. Click below to check it out and here some thoughts.
That’s right the new doctor is FEMALE! Jodie Whittaker, know for the role of Beth Latimer on the BBC Series Broadchurch, which makes sense when you consider that Chris Chibnall, the creator of Broadchurch will be taking over when current Show runner Steven Moffit exits.
As, unfortunately, to be expected, there was a mixed reaction to this change. But as one fan pointed out on twitter:
<blockquote class=”twitter-tweet” data-lang=”en”>
For every whiny dude saying he’s done with Doctor Who, there are five women going “Well fuck, guess I’ll start watching again.”

Sixth Doctor, Colin Baker tweeted that “the BBC really did do the right thing and let the Doctor be in touch with her feminine side.” He added: “As a father of daughters — result!” He later added : “Change my dears and not a moment too soon — she IS the Doctor whether you like it or not!”
Personally, I am super excited to see what Chibnall and Whittaker will do with the role. I think that Moffat was great when he was just a writer on the show, Blink is one of the greatest episodes of the rebooted series, however once he took over as show runner things seemed to get a bit hinky. Not to mention the fact that he is responsible for Clara, of whom I have very strong opinions of. We’ve had a female Master so why not a female Doctor?
What do you think? Are you excited for a female Doctor?
